Fall has arrived in East Lansing, and our parish is overflowing with Catholic MSU students who call St. John their spiritual home-away-from-home. Hundreds of students are actively involved in activities that build their faith, help them make lifelong friends, and allow them to spend time in service to others—please continue to encourage Catholic MSU students whom you know to participate!
In addition to all of the students involved in our programs and service activities, hundreds of students attend Mass each weekend. We offer five Masses each Sunday 8:00am, 10:00am, Noon, 5:00pm and 7:00pm. Hundreds of students also join us before or after Mass for a Sunday supper at 6:00pm. A favorite Mass for the students is Tuesday and Thursday nights at 9:15pm I hope you will join us for Mass when you are in East Lansing!
There are more than 12,000 Catholics enrolled at Michigan State University, and St. John Student Center expends tremendous resources to reach out to these students. Some students find a home at St. John during their first week of school, while other students rediscover their faith later in their college years. As one of our recent graduates explained:
In a school of 43,000+ students, it is easy to get lost in the shuffle, lose direction, not know where to go, and feel a little left out. This year, though, I found out that the people at St. John don’t just view me as a student ID number, they actually care – I just wish I had found this out earlier! From the retreats to the liturgies to the study tables, the list goes on and on. Thank you for making me feel more like a family member than a number!
Our mission at St. John Church & Student Center is ministering to the needs of students at all stages of faith development. I ask you to join in our mission by continuing to encourage your student to explore their faith, by praying for our ministry, and by considering a financial gift to support the many programs and activities that St. John provides to Catholic students at MSU.
